Training moves to the Valentines all weather from 6.30- 8pm on Thursdays.

On Tuesday training is at Bangor Sportsplex at the new time of 8pm to 9.30pm.

Bryansburn girl represents Northern Ireland

Last Sunday 20^th July local girl Amber Dempster, fifteen, turned out for Northern Ireland Under 17’s in an International friendly against the Republic of Ireland. Amber played for the Bryansburn boys’ teams for six years and has recently moved on to play for Northland Raiders in the top flight of Ladies football. She had already played against Wales, Scotland and the Republic for Northern Ireland Under 15’s back in May. To be called up despite being two years younger than the rest of the players’ shows the bright future she has ahead of her.

The game took place at Milebush Park, Castlebar, Co Mayo and the Republic side proved too strong for their Northern Irish counterparts winning by seven goals to one. However, Amber provided the highlight for the visitors with fifteen minutes remaining when she latched on to a through ball and rounded keeper Kiev Dollard to score the Northern Ireland consolation.

Great start for Bryansburn

Bryansburn 1^st XI made a great start to their pre-season friendly programme when they travelled to Intermediate 1A side Rosario YC and came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 on Saturday.

Preparations step up a gear when Bangor FC, newly restored to the top flight of local football, come to Ballywooley for a friendly and the Annual Four Team Tournament will follow this on Saturday 26th July when Killymoon Rangers, Comber Rec and East Belfast will be competing alongside the hosts.

On Tuesday 29th July Bangor Rangers will be bringing two sides to Ballywooley and the 3^rd XI start their games with a visit from 3^rd Bangor OB the following evening.

Numbers at training so far have been extremely encouraging and a number of new signings have been made to complement last years panel of players. Bryansburn are still on the lookout for further new players as they continually look to strengthen all four senior sides. Anyone interested should contact Club Manager TJ Young on 07801 600164 or come along to Ballywooley tonight or Saturday when a warm welcome will be assured.

New under 10 side

Bryansburn Football Club currently has the largest junior football set-up in the North Down area with nine teams playing competitive League football each week. We can currently cater for any boys, or girls, born in the 1990’s. Every year we start a new Under 10 side and the plan is to do the same this year. The squad will be coached over the month of August and will have a series of friendly games in preparation for the start of the George Best Castlereagh Youth League, which starts in early September.

We are also looking to appoint a Manager for this new side. The position would be ideal for some-one looking to start off in management or who is currently doing a coaching badge. Tom Brown (07751 696411) is taking details of all those who would be interested in being part of this new adventure.

Bryansburn School of Excellence

There is just over two weeks until the start of the 14^th annual Bryansburn School of Excellence. The week long football coaching course caters for boys and girls in the five to fifteen age range with the five to eight year-olds on the 10.00am to noon session each day and the nine to fifteen attending the 1pm to 3pm slot every afternoon where they will be under the guidance of IFA qualified coaches. The scheme, which has been sponsored by Dale Farm and NDBC, commences on Monday 11^th August at Ballywooley, Crawfordsburn Road, Bangor.

At the time publishing there are still forty places left and these will be filled on a first come basis. At a cost of only £25 for the week this well-run course definitely offers value for money. Application forms can be obtained from Graham Lowry (91455127) or Alan Dempster (91464240)

2008 Summer School of Excellence

Bryansburn F.C. are highly committed to promoting Junior Football in the Bangor Area. This season we will have nine youth teams catering for boys and girls born from 1990 to 1999.

In August we will be running our 14th Summer School of Excellence. Boys and girls in the five to fifteen age group will be split into groups of around twenty and supervised for the week by our IFA approved coaches. As well as providing an enjoyable week the aim is to improve the football skills and knowledge of everyone involved.

Whereas we used to be one of only two schemes in Bangor, the market has become saturated in recent years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our regular participants for their continued support of our course which I believe gives the best value for money. Please note that places will be allocated on a first come basis. Alan Dempster (Club Chairman)

Bryansburn’s Annual Dinner and Awards Night

Bryansburn’s Annual Dinner and Awards Night took place last Friday 23^rd May 2008 at the Marine Court Hotel where a capacity crowd enjoyed a superb meal and evening’s entertainment.

Highlight of the night focused on the 4^th XI who celebrated their promotion to Division 2A after a second-placed finish. Down Area League Medals were presented to the following squad: Russell Proctor, Steven Cairnduff, John Geddis, Davey Kerr, Paul Coard, Brian Campbell, Michael Jeffers, Brian Nelson, David Armstrong, Derek Ferguson, Philip Tumelty, Peter Gilmer, Chris McReynolds, Ben Shivers and Ian Henderson.
